Event 2 - Fantastic Voyage

    For my second event I attended the watch party for the movie “Fantastic Voyage”. Though we originally had some difficulties with the watch party platform, we were able to switch over to zoom and watch the movie separately. This movie was very interesting and I found that it connected to my major (Biology) a lot as it took the shrunken down main characters through the human body to solve a medical mystery of a patient. I found out some interesting facts about the movie from Alvaro, including the fact that this movie used to be shown to medical school students as a fun demonstration of anatomy.

In this movie, a group of scientists and soldiers are miniaturized to the size of a microbe for an hour and sent into the body of a scientist who is suffering from a blood clot in his brain. Through their mission they travel through the arteries and pass through the heart as cardiac arrest is undertaken. Due to the lack of time they only have 6 minutes to destroy the clot once they reach it. After a successful surgery the team attempts to escape and after a casualty caused by a white blood cell most members make it out through the eye.

This movie featured some comical graphics and animations, but ultimately kept me entertained throughout the event. I do recommend those who haven’t watched it to do so, especially if they are interested in sci-fi and medicine.
